Why Resolutions Fail – Part 5

5 Points to Specificity5 Points to Specificity

Congrats!  You’ve made it to the 5th and final week in our program of how to build your Nowolutions and reach the goals that have evaded you until now.  This week, we drill down into your goals once more; it’s time to get specific.

Really specific.

We often phrase our goals in a generic way, without having a really clear picture in our mind of what it is we want to achieve.  When you added the dimension of emotion last week, you started to bring that picture into focus.

But updating your goals with our 5 points of specificity is like moving from a 3 megapixel camera to a 10 megapixel one!   Let the pixel party begin….

Fishing for Compliments?

Posted By keith

Fishing for ComplimentsLet’s face it.  It’s human to want to hear compliments from those around us – about our looks, our job performance, our sporting achievements.  But when the game turns to fishing for compliments, it could be a sign of a problem of deep sea proportions.

Many of us have our “achilles heel” – the part of us that we think is not good enough – especially when we fall into the trap of constant comparison to those around us.

The “I’m not good enough” mantra can show up in many areas of life, but no matter how or where it shows up, there are 4 steps you can take to help you shift from fishing for compliments to simply being a magnet for them.  Buckle up.  This could be a rollercoaster ride.

Why Resolutions Fail – Part 4

The Power of WhyThe Power of “Why”

It’s week 4 in our program of helping you achieve your goals with Nowolutions – and ensuring that they are the right “size” for you, and ones that you truly believe you can achieve.  This week, it’s time to step it up a notch.  By making it personal…

How personally powerful are your goals?

Are they simple statements of things that you one day wish to be?   Words on a page that list things you’ll one day have?  If your goals are mere rational declarations without a strong emotional connection, then there’s (unfortunately) a high chance those goals will never see the light of day.

Goals with emotion are goals with intent.  And intent is like rocket-fuel for goal achievement.

What’s your “Why?”

Why Resolutions Fail – Part 3

It's not what you think; it's what you believeIt’s not what you think; it’s what you believe.

The word on the street is that positive thinking will help you achieve your goals.  Simply state your goal or intention, and like a genie’s lamp, your wish shall be granted.

Yeah, right.  And money grows on trees.

The reality:  positive thinking might do you more harm than good.

You could go on just repeating positive thoughts to yourself.  And you’ll likely find yourself in wishing mode for a long time.  Or worse, you may actually send yourself in a downward spiral of depression.

Wait a minute….

…positive thinking can bring about depression?

You bet it can – and it’s all tied to what you believe about yourself.  Here’s why….

Why Resolutions Fail – Part 2

Setting goals may be self-sabotageSetting goals may be self-sabotage!

Last week, you learned how – and why – to say goodbye to your New Year’s resolutions, and replace them with your Nowolutions.   Remember, they’re the goals for where you want to be – but you start acting on them now!

This week, we dive into the 2nd major reason why resolutions fail – and how your best intentions might actually be a hidden form of sabotage.  It all lies in your goal-setting.

When many of us embark on setting goals for our personal development, we usually fall back on old adages like “dream big” and “the bigger, the better.”  We dream that we can transform our health and develop amazing physiques (fit for a magazine cover!).  Or, we drift off imaging what it will be like when we get the new job with its fat salary and even fatter bonuses.

But when we tip the scales too far, we do ourselves a serious dis-favour.

Here are the 3 reasons why….
